COVID19 Vaccine Update Info

ATTENTION: ALL STAFF/FAMILY MEMBERS – IMPORTANT INFO

COVID 19 VACCINE INFO

Dear Staff Members, Residents & Family Members,

As many of you may have heard, the FDA Advisory Committee has made the recommendation to the FDA to authorize the Pfizer Covid Vaccine for emergency use authorization.  The committee voted to recommend the use of the vaccine for individuals ages 16 and older.  The decision was based on clinical trials that included more than 43,000 people and showed 95% efficacy.  Governor Cuomo has said that the States review panel would convene shortly after the FDA grants emergency use authorization which may come any day, any minute.  As you have all heard, nursing home staff and our residents would be first in line to receive the vaccine.  The vaccine has been touted as “ the light at the end of the tunnel”.  I know many of you have very diverse opinions regarding taking the vaccine for which we respect.  The vaccine is not mandatory but it is recommended as nursing home residents accounted for 40% of the deaths earlier this spring.  Please know that we have been working feverishly with our community partners, CVS, Walgreens and our local pharmacy vendor ( PROCARE) to secure enough vaccine for anyone wishing to take it.  We have partnered with CVS to distribute and administer the vaccine for our residents and staff.  There will be 3 Vaccine Clinics offered, the dates as of the date of this letter are still unknown.  However, once the FDA gives the “ GO AHEAD”, CVS will contact me and they will let us know our Vaccine Clinic Dates ( we have no control over the dates). Clinic Day 1 – CVS will come in and vaccinate staff and residents.  On Clinic Day 2 – CVS will vaccinate anyone they missed ( staff/residents).  On Clinic Day 3 – CVS will give everyone round 2 of the vaccines.  The second round of the vaccine should be approximately 21 days from the day anyone first receives it.

Since the pandemic has started up until now, you all have been in the front line.  We thank you for all you do for our residents and we thank you for your dedication and commitment here at New East Side Nursing Home.
